Great points. I’m not sure I’m misrepresenting JP here. Typically a psychological professional would not be primarily motivated by money. However, I believe we both will agree JP is not your typical psychologist.
This is someone who has more influence outside of the academy than within it, a testament to his relatability with his target audience. On the other hand, that engagement can be used as a method of monetization.
If you believe that JP doesn’t make money off of YouTube, social media, or appearances perhaps you and I don’t have the same understanding of where he makes his money.
My argument here is clear: there is more $ outside than within the academy. He is less likely to be challenged by people booking him for an appearance than someone pursuing higher education.
